I've spent more than four decades making films that tell the stories of America’s greatest challenges – from the Civil War to the Dust Bowl, from the Second World War to the Vietnam War.

In each of these historic moments, we were challenged to live up to the essential promise of our nation, preserving a democratic system of government that respects the rights and addresses the needs of all its citizens. Today, such challenges to our democracy are rampant. That's why I'm reaching out.

In Georgia's Senate runoff election, Rev. Raphael Warnock is running against Donald Trump's handpicked candidate, one who stands against the very democratic values that make up the fabric of our nation.

This race will come down to the narrowest of margins, and wealthy GOP donors have already poured millions into an effort to turn Georgia red. 

I believe that Rev. Warnock is the kind of leader we need in Washington to uphold our democracy and move our country forward. I believe that he can win this race, and I'm asking you to dig deep and help ensure that Rev. Warnock has the resources he needs to fight back against the GOP and turn out voters in every corner of Georgia.
