Congresswoman Tenney's Weekly Newsletter Have questions? Contact Me Here Demanding Oversight and Accountability After Report Reveals New York's Gross Mismanagement of Taxpayer Funds On November 15, Politico reported on a New York State Comptroller's audit that revealed at least $11 billion in fraudulent COVID-19 unemployment payments under the Cuomo-Hochul Administration. New York Comptroller Tom DiNapoli's audit on this massive unemployment fraud wasn't released until a week after New Yorkers headed to the polls in one of the closest gubernatorial elections in recent history. This raises serious ethical questions regarding the independence of the comptroller's office. Withholding this information until one week after the election clearly benefited Governor Hochul. Sadly, since taking over from disgraced former governor Andrew Cuomo, Kathy Hochul has humiliated New York State with scams, lies, and mismanagement that rival even her corrupt predecessor. New Yorkers deserve better. We must demand full transparency from our state government, which is why I am calling on the comptroller’s office to clarify to the people of New York why this report was released only after the election. I will also fight to ensure that a new Republican Congress investigates this mismanagement and holds individuals accountable for abusing taxpayer dollars. Voting is one of our most sacred rights as citizens of our self-governing Constitutional Republic, and it must be protected. Florida and Georgia exemplified that in more ways than one, and the bulletin highlights the success stories of Republican-led election integrity initiatives in these states. Both put into place commonsense policies, such as stronger voter ID requirements and expanded early voting, to strengthen faith and confidence in their elections. Even with these wins for election integrity, many states, including Arizona, California, and Nevada, highlighted nightmarish election scenarios. The bulletin provides recommendations for the future to ensure Election Day does not turn into Election Month, including requiring voter identification when requesting mail-in ballots and maintaining updated and accurate voter rolls. The House Election Integrity Caucus produced this bulletin to continue driving the conversation behind commonsense reforms to restore faith in elections and encourage all Americans to exercise their sacred right to vote! This week, I joined Newsmax’s Rob Schmitt Tonight to discuss the ongoing war in Ukraine, which intensified once again this week after missiles crossed the border and landed in Poland, killing two Polish citizens. In my interview, I discussed how President Biden’s weakness failed to deter Putin and invited this aggression. The war is dragging on into the winter months, bringing with it more food shortages and displacement of people across Europe. This unprovoked war should have been avoided, and would have been if President Biden stood up earlier to make clear that the United States would maintain peace through strength. The President's botched and deadly withdrawal from Afghanistan undermined our credibility and emboldened our enemies. You can watch the full video here or at the link above. Transparency and accountability are among my top priorities in Congress. As your representative, I believe strongly that you deserve to know where I stand on the tough issues and how I voted on every piece of legislation. This is why I am the only member of Congress who explains EVERY vote I cast on your behalf. I tell you about the legislation, how I voted, and explain why. This is what you deserve! Since I launched this initiative, I have explained 402 votes. This week, the House considered several bills, including legislation to improve services for veterans and enhance oversight of the Veterans Administration. Recognizing the Heroic World War II Service of the Joseph Brothers of Utica, NY on the House Floor On Tuesday, I was honored to deliver remarks commending the Joseph Brothers of Utica, New York, on their honorable service to this great nation. The five Joseph brothers all served across different theaters in World War II. Each brother honorably answered the call to serve in one of our nation’s darkest hours. The brothers remained committed to their posts across multiple combat fronts, even during the tragic passing of their dear mother. The Joseph family’s history of service is a great example of what it means to be a true American patriot and exemplifies the very best of the Greatest Generation. Members of the Joseph family still reside in New York’s 22nd District, where they continue to display an exemplary commitment to serving their country and community. You can watch the full remarks here or at the link above. Advocating to Restore the FULL Pension Benefits of the Delphi Salaried Retirees Earlier this week, I delivered remarks on the House Floor urging the Senate to take immediate action to pass the Susan Muffley Act, a bill which would fully restore the pensions of the Delphi Salaried Retirees. Under the Obama Administration, the Delphi Salaried Retirees had their pension benefits slashed, while unionized hourly workers received their full benefits. The Susan Muffley Act would fully restore the Delphi Salaried Retirees’ full pension benefits with back pay to right this historic wrong. I was honored to support this legislation when it passed the House of Representatives in July. But now, the Senate must pass this legislation before it expires at the end of the year. The Delphis have been fighting for almost 15 years to correct this injustice, and it would be a travesty if they had to start over the next year. The Senate must act now and restore the full pensions of Delphi Salaried Retirees! You can watch the full speech here or at the link above. Another NY22 Casework Success Story My team recently was happy to assist a constituent in obtaining medals for a late Army World War II Veteran from Oneida County. His father earned the Bronze State Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with four bronze service stars, the World War II Victory Medal, Combat Infantry Badge-First Award, and the Marksman Badge with Rifle Bar. The medals were sent to him, and they arrived on Veterans Day, along with a flag flown over the Capitol and a certificate in honor of his father.
