John,
President Biden’s plan to provide student debt relief was celebrated across generations―but just after the election, Republican-appointed judges blocked the relief from taking effect. The plan is plainly legal―but that doesn’t stop these politicians in robes from spitting in the eye of people caught in the student debt trap.
Now, President Biden has a choice: Resume student loan payments, even for the 26 million people who qualified for―and were granted―student loan relief under the program. Or he can continue the pause on federal student loan payments, which has been ongoing since March of 2020.
Tell President Biden: Student loan payments cannot resume until your relief program takes effect!
Student loans aren’t just a young person’s problem. Tens of thousands of retirees have their Social Security checks garnished to recoup student loan debt. It shouldn’t be that way!
Higher education is a public good―just like retirement. Our government shouldn’t punish people for pursuing it. And President Biden shouldn’t let an activist judge stop him from using executive action to help people.
Sign our petition: Tell President Biden to extend the student loan payment pause until the relief program takes effect!
Thank you,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
