Want to be even more inspired? Some of these remarkable leaders made history by becoming 'firsts' in their communities. Here are just a few of the trailblazing NALpistas who broke barriers this election:

  • Munira Abdullahi; Ohio State House, District 9; First Somali American woman and first Muslim woman to serve in the Ohio State Legislature
  • Ricardo Lara; California State Insurance Commissioner; First openly LGBTQ+ statewide elected official in California
  • Erica Mosca; Nevada State House, District 14; First Filipino/a to serve in the Nevada State Legislature
  • Nadia Nasir; Dearborn Heights School Board; First Muslim South Asian to be elected to the school board
  • Anupam Chugh Sidhu; Plymouth-Canton Community School Board; First South Asian elected to the school board

These bold New American leaders will be serving on school boards, city councils, state legislatures, and in Congress; changing the face of leadership and ensuring that our voices are heard at every level of our democracy. We are so proud of their leadership and can't wait to see what they do next!

Be sure to meet the newest cohort of NALpistas in elected office and join us in congratulating them on their amazing wins!

Thank you for being a part of our democracy strengthening movement. We couldn't do it without you!
