PROGRAM UPDATES:
Familias Reunidas Bond Program

We helped free another person from Otay Mesa Detention Center! Luis is a 33-year-old asylum seeker from Colombia. We got some sweet pictures of Luis reuniting with his uncle and sponsor in San Francisco. We wish him the best in this next chapter of his life!

So far, we have successfully freed 121 people from 30 different countries of origin. But this year, the calls and pleas for bond assistance have doubled. With your continued support, we can continue bringing families together. Every dollar donated goes towards a mother hugging her son, a husband coming home to his wife, and a loved one being free from detention prison!

Cold Wear Clothing Drive

Border Angels supports about 1,200 migrants in over a dozen Tijuana shelters every month, and at least 500 of them are children. Most of these families and children come from hot, tropical and subtropical lands. The cold they find at the border, often freezing, is unknown to them, and for this reason, many of them suffer from respiratory diseases.

This winter season we want to assist these shelter families with NEW cold wear items WITH TAGS. (Items must be new in order to cross into Tijuana, MX). We are in need of:
* blankets
* jackets
* sweaters
* beanies
* socks, etc.

We are in need of all adult and children sizes.

You can email us at [email protected] (mailto:[email protected]) to schedule a drop-off or mail in a donation to our office at 2258 Island Ave. San Diego, CA 92102. You can also check out our Amazon Wishlist ([link removed])

Cold Wear Drive Donations

We got a visit from Bob and Antonia Davis at our office yesterday! They came loaded with fuzzy sweaters, backpacks, thermals, and more for our winter cold-wear drive. We are super grateful for their support and everyone who has contributed donations for the Tijuana shelters.

Did you know Antonia is actually the talented artist featured on our Border Angels brochure? The art piece features young migrants killed by US. Border policies and institutions:
Claudia Patricia Gómez González, a 20-year-old shot by a US Border Patrol agent on 23 May 2018 after crossing the US-Mexican border.
Jakelin Caal Maquin a 7-year-old child who tragically passed away in Border Patrol custody two days after they were detained
Mariee Juarez, a 19-month-old toddler who died after becoming ill in an ICE detention facility in Texas.
And Felipe Alonzo Gomes, an 8-year-old who child died on Christmas Eve in Border Patrol custody

Two migrants drown while trying to swim around Tijuana-San Diego border fenceTwo migrants, one of them Russian and the other still unidentified, drowned while crossing the U.S.-Mexico border at sea in Tijuana last week.

The fatalities come amid a rising wave of migrant deaths at the border, which in fiscal year 2022 had its deadliest record in history with more than 855 deaths reported by the U.S. Border Patrol.

Human rights advocates told EFE on Monday that the tally shows the desperation migrants feel as they face a lack of opportunities and immigration restrictions, leading them to dangerous routes out at sea, where at least 10 people have died since 2021 while attempting to swim across.”

Federal judge blocks Title 42 rule that allowed expulsion of migrants at US-Mexico border, restoring access for some asylum seekers
A federal judge on Tuesday blocked Title 42 – a controversial rule that’s allowed US authorities to expel more than 1 million migrants who crossed the US-Mexico border.

Tuesday’s court order leaves the Biden administration without one of the key tools it had deployed to address the thousands of migrants arriving at the border on a daily basis and could restore access to asylum for arriving migrants.

While the rule was drafted by the Trump administration during the Covid-19 pandemic, the Biden administration has relied heavily on it to manage the increase of migrants at the border.
