Democrat,
This week with the victory of Senator Cortez Masto in Nevada, Democrats were able to celebrate retaining majority hold in the Senate. I appeared on Politics & Power with NJ GOP Party Chairman, Bob Hugin, this week to discuss how Democrats were able to hold back the “red wave” Republicans kept promising was coming on Election Day.

The fight, however, is still not over in the very close Senate race in Georgia so we need to keep our energy up and bring some "Jersey" to the fight. If you want to sign up for phone banks in support of Reverend Raphael Warnock, sign up here! [[link removed]] We need the whole country to come together to support the Reverend to ensure a win on December 6th.
Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, also announced this week that she would be stepping down from Democratic leadership after nearly two decades of unwavering dedication to the party. I also want to send my deepest condolences on behalf of the NJDSC to the family of Former First Lady Lucinda Florio, wife of the late Governor Jim Florio who passed away less than 2 months ago. Governor and First Lady Florio were perfect examples of what dedicated service to your community looks like. First Lady Florio also played an active role in the progress made during their tenure and continued to be a guiding beacon in NJ’s fight for children and women’s rights.

Governor Murphy was in Newark on Tuesday to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the brand new Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport, which will open to the public on December 8th. The new 1 million square foot terminal, which is 20% larger than the old one, will accommodate an estimated 13.6 million passengers annually, have double the number of gates of the old one, increased space and lines for security, and a covered pedestrian bridge which will provide direct terminal access for passengers to the public parking garage and the new centralized rental car facilities.
The new Terminal A is expected to create more than $4.6B in regional economic activity, as well as:

Additionally, the state-of-the-art transit hub will showcase the work of 29 local artists with unique art installations. You can find a full list and bio of the artists included here. [[link removed]]
“Unprecedented in its magnitude and potential impact, Port Authority’s transformation of Terminal A will result in a space that is quintessentially New Jersey,” said Governor Murphy. [[link removed]] “The new public art installations on display at Terminal A emphasize that Newark Liberty is not just a driver of regional economic activity, but an internationally recognized landmark within a culturally rich and inclusive landscape. There’s no better way to emphasize the value of such diversity and cultural exchange than by showcasing the work of local artists who represent the very best our state has to offer in terms of talent, innovation, and vision.”

This week marks one year since the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill was signed into law thanks to the work of Democrats and [[link removed]] President Biden. Here in New Jersey, we’re already starting to see progress on delivering safer roads, bridges, and drinking water, more affordable and accessible high-speed internet, good-paying jobs, and more, which the graphic briefly highlights.
You can read my full statement on how Biden and Dems delivered where Trump and Republicans couldn’t here. [[link removed]]

The Biden-Harris administration went live with a new website highlighting some of the progress that has already been made, with Democrats help, within just the first 2 years of President Biden’s administration. Some of the top achievements listed include:

Lowering costs of family’s everyday expenses: The Inflation Reduction Act lowers costs for families, caps seniors’ out of pocket expenses at the pharmacy at $2,000 a year, reduces the deficit, finally makes the largest corporations pay their fair share, and, for the first time, allows Medicare to negotiate the price of certain high-cost drugs.

More People With Health Insurance Than Ever Before: Since the beginning of the Biden Administration, 5 million people have gained health insurance coverage and the nation’s uninsured rate is the lowest it has ever been at 8 percent.

Historic Confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson: President Biden nominated and the Senate confirmed Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. Justice Jackson is one of our nation’s brightest legal minds and has unprecedented experience in our legal system. President Biden’s appointees include record percentages of women, racial and ethnic minorities, and civil rights lawyers and public defenders. Sixty-seven percent of President Biden’s nominees are women, and 66% are people of color.

Higher American manufacturing rate: The CHIPS and Science Act will lower the costs of everything from cars to dishwashers, create good-paying manufacturing jobs across the country, including union construction jobs, and ensure the United States manufactures more critical technologies here at home.

Rescuing the pandemic economy: The American Rescue Plan funded our vaccination campaign that resulted in millions of American adults getting fully vaccinated against COVID-19, safely re-opened all schools for in-person learning, helped 200,000 child care providers keep their doors open, provided emergency rental assistance to nearly 3 million households who may have otherwise faced eviction, and delivered relief to American families.

Most Meaningful Gun Violence Reduction Legislation in 30 Years: The Bipartisan Safer Communities Act will save lives by requiring young people ages 18 to 21 to undergo enhanced background checks; narrowing the "boyfriend loophole" to keep guns out of the hands of convicted dating partners; funding crisis interventions, including extreme risk protection order ("red flag") laws; making significant investments to address the mental health crisis in America, including in our schools; clarifying who needs to register as a federally licensed gun dealer and run background checks before selling a single weapon; and making gun trafficking and straw purchases distinct federal crimes.

P.S. This week, we observed Transgender Awareness Week, which raises awareness for the transgender community through advocacy and education. Next Thursday we celebrate Thanksgiving, a time when we reflect on the things we have in our life that we are thankful for. I want to once again take a moment to express my gratitude to the NJ Dems community that is only continuing to grow stronger and stronger. It was a hard fought midterm election season but I am confident in the power and dedication of our NJDSC community and look forward to continuing to work together to make our state a better place for people to thrive.
