THE HAPPENINGS IN CONGRESS
Urged the Secretary of Defense to Restore BAH Support for Servicemembers and Their Families
The brave men and women that have dedicated their lives to serving our country deserve access to top-notch resources and benefits. That's why I joined my colleagues in writing a letter urging the Secretary of Defense to immediately restore the full Basic Housing Allowance for servicemembers and their families. Read the full letter to Secretary Austin here.
Received the Bipartisan "Poder" Award
I am honored to have received the bipartisan "Poder" award from the Hispanic Lobbyists Association in recognition of my work benefiting the Hispanic community. As a Mexican-American member of Congress, I will always advocate for Hispanic values rooted at home in TX-23.
SPENDING TIME IN TX-23
Honored Student Veteran Leaders with the UTSA President
This week I had the privilege of attending the University of Texas San Antonio football game to honor student veteran leaders alongside UTSA President Taylor Eighmy. It's always great to see the Roadrunners in action and support the work of our veterans.
Toured the New Spurs Training Facility
The Spurs have always been a significant part of San Antonio’s identity and their impact travels far beyond the court. Having a major sports team representing San Antonio boosts the local economy and truly is a source of community pride. This week I had the opportunity to tour the construction site of their new training facility. I am excited to see the completion of this state-of-the-art installation right here in San Antonio.
Announced a $231,811 Grant for the Batesville Volunteer Fire Department
Firefighters play a critical role in protecting our neighborhoods and families. It is important that first responders in every community have the resources they need to stay safe. I am excited to announce that the USDA has approved a $231,811 grant to replace the fire truck and malfunctioning equipment at the Batesville Volunteer Fire Department in Zavala County.
Celebrating Farm-City Week in TX-23
During Farm-City week, we recognize the work that farmers and ranchers do each day to feed and clothe our nation. The agricultural partnerships that connect big cities and rural areas within our district and beyond is crucial to keeping our local grocery stores stocked and ensuring families have food on the table.
