Fatherly

Patrick Dempsey is good at playing charming, rakish, handsome characters who excel at seeming, well, perfect. He is, after all, McDreamy (11 seasons of Grey’s Anatomy); Prince Charming (Enchanted, now Disenchanted); Mr. Right (Can’t Buy Me Love, Made of Honor). Offscreen, he’s a dad of three and husband of 23 years; a man who runs a cycling charity and seriously races sports cars. His life seems pretty perfect, too.

Not so. Patrick Dempsey goes on the record to let us all know that struggle is part of life and growth only comes when we all look behind the curtain. As he says, “No one is perfect, right? We’re human beings. People are going to make giant mistakes.” What Hollywood fairy tales don’t convey, and what Dempsey discussed with writer Alex French for our recent cover story, is that you must learn these lessons over and over again.
