The Senate broke the filibuster on a bill supporting marriage equality.

This is great news, and definitely a step in the right direction. Before I give you any more details, we are working hard to bring equality, inclusion, and acceptance to our communities – will you pitch in so the work can continue?

Okay, John, here's what's going on:

While the Respect for Marriage Act doesn't require states to legalize same-sex marriage, it does require all 50 states to recognize another state's legal marriage.

This means that even if the Supreme Court overturns Obergefell v. Hodges (the decision that legalized same-sex marriage), a state that bans same-sex marriage will have to recognize a legal same-sex marriage from another state.

While the bill has two more rounds of votes before it lands on President Biden's desk, I'm hopeful. I'm a firm believer that everyone deserves to marry the person they love, regardless of something as trivial as their sex.

The road for the legalization of same-sex marriage has been long and full of obstacles, and while this is an incredible step in the right direction, there's still work to be done. I'm working to bring our communities to the next level. Will you donate $25 to keep us going?
