Dear John,
This week, a federal judge finally struck down the controversial Trump-era Title 42, which prevented many migrants from seeking asylum in the United States. The Biden Administration now has until December 21 to put a plan in place to address the likely influx of protection-seeking migrants at the U.S. southern border. In this analysis, Adam Isacson, Director for Defense Oversight, and I look back at the impact Title 42 has had and the challenges ahead.
Also this week, we bring you the main takeaways of how the U.S. midterm elections will impact Latin America, and details of a resolution introduced in the House of Representatives challenging the U.S. government to take more decisive steps to tackle corruption and impunity in Guatemala.
Finally, check out an animation we produced, in Spanish, alongside an organization of relatives of imprisoned individuals on the negative impact of incarceration policies and practices beyond the walls of prisons. We hope you enjoy this WOLA Weekly. Please note we will not be issuing a newsletter next week. We will be back on Friday, December 2. Maureen Meyer Vice President for Programs, WOLA |
