Republicans drop all lawsuits challenging student debt relief!

Dear MoveOn member,

In August, the Biden administration announced a historic student debt
cancellation policy, which would transform the lives of tens of millions
of borrowers across the country. Despite President Biden possessing the
authority to cancel student debt as per the HEROES Act, passed by Congress
in 2003, right-wing MAGA Republicans have filed numerous lawsuits
challenging the legality of student debt cancellation.

But on November 11, a Trump-appointed federal judge blocked the Biden
administration’s historic decision to cancel student debt for tens of
millions of borrowers across the country.^1

And now, the Biden administration has been forced to stop accepting
cancellation applications for debt cancellation.

We demand that Republican lawmakers and other parties drop all litigation
related to student debt cancellation, and we’re also urging the Biden
administration to commit to indefinitely extending the student loan
payment pause, which is currently set to expire in January.

While the case is currently being appealed to a higher court, student loan
debt cancellation appears to be in jeopardy.

In trying to kill this program, Republicans and their right-wing minions
are trying to deny critical relief for tens of millions of families that
are suffering, every single day, under the crushing weight of student loan
debt. This is absolutely unfathomable, and that’s why we’re demanding that
they drop all litigation regarding student debt cancellation.

Loan payments are set to resume in January 2023, but it's critical that
loan payments remain suspended, especially as the cancellation program
remains in flux. That's why we’re also calling on the Biden administration
to extend the student loan payment pause indefinitely.
