Team,

I just got back from COP27 – the United Nations’ annual climate conference in Egypt – where our American delegation joined leaders from around the globe to hammer out a path forward to tackle the climate crisis before it’s too late.

We consistently heard two things in Egypt. First, that our historic Inflation Reduction Act – a bill I helped shape key components of – is the biggest step we’ve ever taken to lower carbon emissions. It’s really brought our country back into a position of global leadership on climate.

And second, that our work to tackle climate change is far from over. So now the question is: Where do we go from here?

There are still big steps forward we need to take to lead the planet to safety. Even beyond the Inflation Reduction Act, we need more ambitious climate policies at home and abroad to lower emissions.

For starters, we need to pass my Clean Competition Act, which will fight climate change and incentivize manufacturers that pollute at high levels to shape up. And we need to expose the corporations and special interests blocking climate action – particularly the fossil fuel industry, which keeps a death grip on the Republican Party.

Will you add your name to mine in calling for Congress to take additional action on climate change? Your voice has an important role to play in the fight to avoid climate disaster.

I left COP27 with a sense of pride and full of hope that we’ll take this opportunity to leave a livable planet for our children and our grandchildren. But it was also a reminder that our work has just begun.

I’m so grateful for your support in this fight.

Sincerely,

Sheldon
