Buckthorn Removal Volunteers
Buckthorn Removal Event
Members of the Mendota Heights Natural Resources Commission, together with resident volunteers, braved the cold last Saturday to remove buckthorn from Valley Park. Buckthorn is an invasive woody plant that invades and out-competes native vegetation, creating increased erosion and shading out native plant, shrub, and tree species. During the event, volunteers removed buckthorn from an approximate 8,000 square foot area, south of the Marie Avenue pedestrian underpass and adjacent to the pedestrian trail.

Winter Reminders: Snow Removal
With the arrival of snowy weather, Streets Maintenance crews are at work creating safe and passable City streets for motorists and pedestrians.
*Here's how you can help:*
* When out for a walk or a run, wear bright colored clothing and give plow drivers a wave to be sure they see you.
* When taking out the trash, be sure to place the bins behind the curb line and try not to leave them out longer than necessary, so your street can be plowed curb-to-curb.
* When shoveling, be sure to clear snow and ice around storm drains and fire hydrants.
* Remember, parking is prohibited on City streets from 2-6 a.m.
