No one expected us to put up the kind of performances that we did on election night in Ohio’s most competitive House districts. The GOP had been eyeing the newly gerrymandered Ohio maps and expected to pick up key swing seats in our state. Well, John, they tried as hard as they could, but Democrats showed out big time, even expanding Ohio’s Democratic Congressional delegation.
Not only did the GOP lose every single swing district that they targeted in Ohio, but Congressman-elect Greg Landsman knocked out longtime GOP incumbent Steve Chabot in OH-01. Emilia Sykes won a swing district against an unqualified Trump campaign operative, and Joyce Beatty and Shontel both cruised to victory.
Even better, the GOP’s brazen attempts at gerrymandering Marcy Kaptur’s district failed miserably. You would think, given Kaptur’s track record, they would’ve been careful about messing with the longest-serving woman in the House, but they got what they deserved in a 13-point blowout.
As a Cuyahoga County Council member and Chairwoman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, Shontel Brown has spent the last decade serving the people of Ohio and building coalitions. Now, as the Congresswoman for Ohio’s 11th District, she will fight for affordable quality health care, jobs that pay fair wages, a strong public education system, and equity and justice for all. Will you join her and be the change we need?
