While I have you, there's some important news about heating your home this winter. Thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act and other bills passed by Congress, Pennsylvania is receiving $228 million in LIHEAP funding from the federal government to help low-income families pay for heating this winter. Here’s a quick FAQ:
What is LIHEAP? The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) provides cash assistance to eligible low-income households with their heating and cooling energy costs, bill payment assistance, energy crisis assistance, weatherization, and energy-related home repairs.
Who is eligible? Eligibility is based on household income. For example, a family of four with an income of $41,625 or less is eligible. A person who participates in benefit programs such as SNAP, SSI, or TANF, may be automatically eligible. More information here.
How can I apply? Although this is federal funding, the program is administered by the Commonwealth. Applications are available here.
