| | | Dear Friends, Can you believe the holiday season is already upon us? As our days get busier and busier, we hope you’ll keep the Coalition Against Hunger in mind this GivingTuesday. It’s the largest day of charitable giving across the globe and takes place on Tuesday, November 29 this year. |
| Mark your calendars for this annual celebration of generosity and help us: - Connect our local community members with vital food resources
- Complete applications for SNAP (food stamp) benefits on behalf of local families and individuals
- Drive positive lasting change through community education and legislative advocacy to increase access to healthy, nutritious food
- Provide resources for local volunteer-run food pantries, soup kitchens, and our anti-hunger partners
| You can help us build momentum by spreading the word and making a pledge to donate this Giving Tuesday to build food security across the Philadelphia region! |
| | | |
| Celebrate the power of people and organizations to positively transform their communities with us from 6-9pm on Giving Tuesday! We’ve partnered with Love City Brewing, a fierce supporter of local anti-hunger work. When you make a donation to our Giving Tuesday campaign, Love City Brewing will give you a free 10oz beer on Tuesday, November 29th! You’ll just need to show proof of your donation, and we encourage you to tip your bartenders. |

| SNAP Text Messaging Scam: The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS) warned Pennsylvanians about a potential scam in which people, regardless of whether they are SNAP recipients or not, get a text saying that there is an issue with their Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. While DHS does send text messages to SNAP recipients, they will never ask for information about an EBT card, SNAP, or any other public assistance programs via unsolicited or random calls or texts. Official DHS text messages will come from the number 1-833-648-1964. |

| We recently received a call from a grandmother raising her grandchildren. She wanted to apply for SNAP benefits, but she didn't think she would be approved. She called our SNAP Hotline just to be sure. After speaking with our experienced Hotline counselors, they determined that based on her income and expenses, she was most likely eligible. Our team assisted her with the SNAP application and submitted it electronically to her County Assistance Office. She has since been approved and has started receiving her SNAP benefits! Recent studies have found that 1 in 4 grandfamilies (families in which children reside with and are being raised by grandparents) face food insecurity. Many of these families are unaware that they may be eligible to receive SNAP benefits. If you aren’t sure if you qualify, give our SNAP Hotline team a call at 215-430-0556, and our experienced counselors can help. Our team is available Monday – Thursday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. Asistencia también disponible en Español. |
