Donald Trump was JUST impeached for abuse of power for political gain and
now he is leading us to the brink of war with Iran — putting the lives of
American personnel, our allies, and countless civilians at risk — because
he believes it will help his re-election.
Trump’s foreign policy is erratic, impulsive, and dangerous. His actions
have serious consequences for our national security and our collective
humanity, and we must hold him accountable. Congress has the sole
authority to declare war and we must de-escalate. We are sick of endless
wars.
The American people deserve a voice. I’ve called for the repeal of the
2001 Authorized Use of Military Force (AUMF), which provides broad powers
for the occupant of the White House to take military action unchecked by
Congress. In December, when Republicans in the Senate stripped out my
sister-in-service Barbara Lee’s amendment to repeal the AUMF, I voted
against the 2020 National Defense Reauthorization Act, which allocated
hundreds of billions to the military-industrial complex with little
accountability.
Once again, the occupant of the White House is putting his interests above
those of the American people, risking war to strengthen his political
standing. He must be held accountable. We must not go to war with Iran.
