John,

On Thursday night, Donald Trump authorized drone strikes in Baghdad to assassinate Maj. Gen. Qassim Suleimani, Iran's second most powerful government official.

Yesterday, the U.S. military announced they would be deploying 3,500 more troops to the region.

This escalation is dangerously reckless. It is wrong. It all but guarantees a cycle of further violence that will put countless families in the region in danger — while painting a target on the backs of U.S. servicemembers, diplomats, and officials across the globe. And it brings us even closer to the brink of all-out war in the area, the likes of which would dwarf the bloodshed we've seen in Afghanistan and Iraq.

We need to work together if we’re going to pull back from this brink. Add your name right now to join Working Families Party members in pledging to take action to stop Trump’s war on Iran.

The United States has been embroiled in nearly-endless bloodshed and warfare in the Middle East for decades. Over the course of both Republican and Democratic administrations, Congress has repeatedly ceded its authority over matters of war and peace to the executive branch. The end result? Untold lives lost. Families torn apart. States collapsed. Trillions of dollars wasted.

This is a defining moment for Democrats in Congress, and for all of us committed to a peaceful and just world. We must push Congress to take immediate steps to prevent further escalation, and to take the keys away from Trump and his war-hungry advisors.

We hope you’ll join us in pledging to take action over the coming days. We need to do all we can to stop Trump’s war with Iran before things escalate even further.

An all-out war with Iran would make the Iraq War look tame in comparison. And it will be working families — not Donald Trump and billionaire defense contractors — who will suffer the worst of it. It’s on all of us to do everything we can to stop this, and we'll be in touch with opportunities to take action in the days ahead.

In solidarity,

The Working Families Party
