McCarthy wins GOP nomination for House speaker

Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy won the Republicans' designation for House speaker on Tuesday, but questions remain over his ability to lock up the spot on the floor in January.

McCarthy, R-Calif., beat back a challenge by more conservative elements in the House Republican Conference represented by Rep. Andy Biggs of Arizona. The final vote tally

While we are waiting on final numbers from Tuesday’s election, preliminary exit polls show the independent margin at +2 Democrat. The video has not yet been updated with numbers from this election, but reviews the role independents have played in determining the outcome of recent elections. We will have more insights from the exit poll and our own post-election survey coming next week.
