Many of you know my story by now — my wife Nancy and I have lived in Ely, Minnesota since 1979, and we founded a little wilderness shop on main street. We took our first trip to the Boundary Waters and soon made the easy decision to spend the rest of our lives here.
What my family and many other business owners are worried about is the immense threat posed by proposed sulfide-ore copper mining next to the Boundary Waters.
This type of mining is extremely toxic, and would devastate the Boundary Waters. Because of the Boundary Waters’ interconnected groundwater, wetlands, and abundant lakes and streams, the area is especially vulnerable to pollution.
Some places are just too important -- we can’t allow the most toxic industry in the United States next to the most-visited Wilderness.
We rely on the generosity of people like you to do this vital work to permanently protect the Boundary Waters. Thanks to the Walter Mondale Legacy Fund every dollar you give is doubled for the Wilderness when you donate before midnight. Make a gift today.
We have come so far, but we aren’t done yet. We need your help.
