DSA-LA is looking for a home! As announced earlier this week, the search has begun to find a space for our chapter to meet, work and organize in. Having our own dedicated headquarters would eliminate many of our administrative and logistical issues and bring members together to collaborate more often. A reliable in-person space will help us build a sense of community and fight for our socialist vision more effectively!
A centrally located space that fits 20-30 people with office and storage capabilities would greatly improve our chapter's working capabilities, but we could do so much more. Our most ambitious goals include room to host 100+ people for chapter-wide events, a space for childcare to welcome more parents and caregivers into DSA, a kitchenette and other amenities for the comfort of anyone using the meeting space, and a retail/storefront set-up to build community engagement through political education, mutual aid initiatives, and more.
We need your help
We can make our dreams of a perfect meeting space a reality, but we need the full commitment of our membership! Our goal is to raise at least $5K in monthly, recurring contributions by the end of the year. These are not national dues (which are also important!), but direct monthly payments that go straight to our chapter. As socialists, we rely on our members to fund our needs, not big donors or other organizations.
This doesn't mean we're asking for $5K from every member - there are a wide range of financial situations in our chapter. While some members can afford a $50 commitment, for others even an extra $1 is asking a lot of. This is why we need everyone to give according to their ability, because a DSA-LA headquarters will be a benefit to all of our members. If we all contribute what we can, we can fund our perfect space.
