Today, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that she will not seek re-election to Democratic leadership. For close to twenty years, Speaker Pelosi has led our caucus with tremendous leadership and courage and is an inspiration for many.

As our nation’s first female speaker of the House, Speaker Pelosi has been a trailblazer in every sense of the word and has shown us how critical it is to have a bold, fearless leader wielding the gavel.

Thanks to Speaker Pelosi’s leadership, we’ve delivered transformational legislation for the American people, including the Affordable Care Act in 2010 and the American Rescue Plan over a decade later in 2021 — to name a few of her legislative milestones.

I have been incredibly fortunate to work alongside and learn from Speaker Pelosi over the years, and she has been an incredible advocate for my work to advance our shared values in Congress.

Speaker Pelosi has stood tall to ensure the halls of Congress reflect the diversity of our nation and supported my appointment to a leadership position on the Steering and Policy Committee and my work representing the United States at the 76th General Assembly of the United Nations.
