John, Our supporters helped defeat the supermajority in the NC House during the recent midterm elections, making it possible to sustain Governor Cooper’s vetoes. By calling voters in key districts across the state, we made a difference with your help and ensured seats were filled with strong gun violence prevention advocates. But, there is so much more to do in the coming months and years to prevent gun-related deaths. Help us keep up the momentum with an end-of-year gift to make our work go even further. Earlier this year, Congress enacted the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act (BSCA) which allocates federal funding to states to implement key programs that we know prevent gun violence, such as Extreme Risk Protection Orders (ERPOs), also known as “red flag laws”, and Community Violence Intervention (CVI) programs. This monumental legislation is the first of its kind in nearly three decades. BSCA can bring much needed funding to North Carolina, but only if our General Assembly passes an ERPO law for North Carolina to qualify to use these federal funds. The time is now to double down on our efforts to implement stronger protections such as an ERPO law. Through the North Carolinians Against Gun Violence (NCGV) Action Fund we will lobby for protections and smart gun laws. Can we count on you for a donation to the NCGV Action Fund (not tax-deductible) when we need it most? Kick-off the season of giving with a gift for safer communities today. Your support will enable us to continue to advocate for programs and policies that are proven to reduce gun-related deaths across NC. We can’t do this without you! Sincerely, Becky Ceartas P.S. Prefer to make a tax-deductible gift before year-end? Donate to NCGV Education Fund to support our advocacy, public education, and support for community-based programs. |
