When the Supreme Court nullified abortion rights earlier this year, millions of Americans were confronted with the sobering reality that we can no longer take for granted any of the freedoms we once thought were secure. That's why I was so encouraged by the Senate's vote yesterday to protect interracial and same-sex marriage by advancing the Respect for Marriage Act.

But in a move that should surprise no one, Ted Cruz chose his bigoted and hate-filled ideology over the equality of millions of Texans.

After voting to overthrow our democracy, fighting to strip healthcare from working Texans, and provoking made-up culture wars, this is just the most recent example of something we know all too well: Ted Cruz’s extremist ideology is out of step with Texas values. Will you sign our petition condemning his bigotry, and standing in support of all Texans whose right to marriage equality is under threat?

It’s never been more clear, Friend -- Ted Cruz does not truly represent Texans, and his hatred has no place here. In just two short years, we will defeat him and his extremism, and send him packing...back to the sandy beaches of Cancun.
