John,
In 2012, the first federal election after 2011 redistricting, Democrats won 1.5 million more U.S. House votes than Republicans. And yet, the GOP won a 33-seat majority. The reason? Gerrymandering.
In 2022, the House election took place on what The New York Times called the fairest map in 40 years. Democrats may have lost the majority, but our seat share was more proportional to our vote share.
What a difference 10 years makes. What a difference this movement made. I firmly believe that without the NDRC, the race for the House would not have been as competitive or defied historic trends.
You did this, John. The calls you made to elected officials, the events you showed up for, the petitions you signed, the money you so generously gave: You made the congressional map more fair. And last Tuesday’s results prove it.

Make no mistake, securing fair maps is an ongoing struggle. Lawsuits over 2021-2022 redistricting are in motion in several states. Republicans no longer see redistricting as a once-per-decade event; they’re going to keep trying to manipulate the maps, year in and year out. So our work is far from finished.
But with you on our side, I know we can achieve even more great things.
Thanks,
Garrett
