A Peruvian delegation of Indigenous leaders and fishing communities is in the United States right now, confronting investors with first-hand testimony on how their communities are threatened by Amazon oil.
Yesterday, the delegation arrived at the headquarters of Vanguard, one of the main financiers of oil company Petroperú. Despite receiving requests for a meeting months prior, the asset manager’s executives were unwilling to spare time to learn about the destruction caused by its financing of Petroperú.
However, the leaders were welcomed with the solidarity of local activists sharing their own experiences and highlighting the interconnected struggles of Indigenous communities across the world.
We protested together in front of Vanguard's headquarters, and our allies have also clogged Vanguard’s fax machine and posted one-star Yelp reviews with messages from leaders.
Vanguard cannot possibly ignore the movement the delegation has built throughout the week.
