Hi there, friend.

I wanted to send a quick update from Washington, where I’ve been preparing for my first term in Congress. I’m participating in a rite of passage for every new member: freshman orientation.

Inside the Capitol dome.

It's been humbling, and a bit surreal, stepping in the Capitol for the first time knowing that I'll be taking votes and making decisions on behalf of our community. A wise person told me this week, "if you aren’t in awe every time you walk onto the floor of the House or see the Capitol, it’s time to leave.”

I agree with that wholeheartedly, and I'm ready to go to work every single day for the people of Northwest and Central Illinois.

I already had the chance to meet some of my future colleagues on both sides of the aisle. As you know, Democrats likely won’t have the Majority in the House, and we’ll need to work hard to build support across the aisle for sensible policies. I will work with anyone if it means improving lives in our district.

I'd like to stress again that I would not be here without your support. The time, energy, and resources you gave are why we now have this opportunity to make progress on the issues that matter -- health care, strengthening our economy, protecting our environment, and so much more.

It’s sinking in that I will soon represent the region where I was born and raised. To me, there truly is no higher honor and I can't wait to get started.

Thanks again for your continued support. This is your victory too, team, and you should be proud of it!

More soon,

Eric
