Hello John,

Last week, the Network of enlightened Women (NeW) hosted Nikki Haley, former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations and Governor of South Carolina, for our Fall Book Club discussion on her new book, If You Want Something Done: Leadership Lessons from Bold Women ([link removed]) .

Drawing on her own leadership experiences, Haley shared the skills it takes to be a strong leader, such as standing by your principles, encouraging other women around you, and not remaining silent. In her book and throughout the event, Haley featured examples from inspirational women such as Margaret Thatcher, Virginia Hall, and Amelia Earhart.

Haley encouraged attendees to learn from these women’s lives. She pointed to the qualities these women embody and how we can distinguish them as great leaders: perseverance, decisiveness, and courage.

"When something feels wrong, it is wrong," said Haley. "You have to believe in yourself. If your gut is telling you it's wrong, and you say you want to make it right, no matter who is against you, you go forward. You do whatever it takes to do it."

The women appreciated the advice and wisdom the Ambassador gave. She spoke on the importance of being a bold leader and leaning into the qualities that set young conservative women apart. Attendees left the night empowered to be strong leaders in their everyday lives.

Through professional development seminars and book clubs, such as this one, NeW is providing resources for the next generation of conservative leaders.

Gratitude for NeW

“I am grateful for NeW because it has cultivated a vibrant community for conservative women at Princeton University. NeW is unique because it brings together like-minded students in both formal educational settings as well as more casual social ones. Our chapter has held stimulating conversations and created meaningful friendships on our campus.” - Alexandra Orbuch, Princeton University (pictured center)

“I am thankful for NeW because I have found a place where I can feel comfortable sharing my beliefs with like-minded women. I am very thankful for the wonderful ladies I have met through this organization and the memories I have made in NeW!” - Taylor Jones, Xavier University (pictured left)

“I am thankful for the intentional community NeW creates. It is easy to feel isolated and unsupported as a conservative woman in academics. NeW makes it easy to find like-minded women passionate about standing up for our values on campus!” - Jaycee Tyler, Texas Tech University (pictured center)

NeW on Campus
On October 19, NeW at Boston College baked cookies and wrote thank you cards to the Boston College Police Officers thanking them for their service as part of our ConSERVative programming to show the service aspect of conservatism.

Adelyn Spikes, NeW Campus Program Coordinator, visited the women at Southern Methodist University on November 3 to meet with the new executive board for the Spring 2023 semester.

NeW at the University of Florida hosted Kayleigh McEnany, former White House Press Secretary and Host on Fox News, on November 5. This event sparked backlash on campus but started an important conversation among students.

Judge Jeanine Pirro, Host on Fox News and former New York State Judge, encouraged young women to stand strong in their conservative beliefs during a visit to NeW at the University of South Florida on November 15.
