Winter is the time for comfort, good food, warmth, and, as always, collective action! Here’s what’s going on in the chapter in the days and weeks ahead:
MAKE ENTERGY PAY, Join us TODAY!
As of November 1st, DSA New Orleans has launched the ambitious campaign to Make Entergy Pay. In short, we're preparing for a debt strike of 10,000 New Orleans ratepayers who are fed up with Entergy's greed and mismanagement of our utilities. We are putting forward our demands for (1) No more shutoffs; and (2) Cancellation of all residential utility debts. Join us TODAY as we onboard volunteers for our Make Entergy Pay campaign. Click this link to join today’s meeting at 7pm!
And sign the pledge if you haven't already!
ELECTION RUNOFF | DECEMBER 3RD (EARLY VOTING BEGINS NOV. 26)
Baton Rouge DSA Member Davante Lewis has pushed incumbent Lambert Boissiere into a runoff for Public Service Commissioner. We made a recommendation to vote for anyone but Boissiere in the primary, and our recommendation stands for the Runoff election on December 10th. Our comrades with Baton Rouge DSA and Sunrise Movement New Orleans have endorsed Davante Lewis.
This race has major implications for climate action in Louisiana.
Online voter registration is through the end of this week (November 19). Register to Vote or check your registration here. Early voting is Nov. 26 through Dec. 3 (excluding Sunday, Nov. 27) from 8:30 a.m.-6 p.m.
BRAKELIGHT CLINIC & HEALTH FAIR | SATURDAY, DECEMBER 3RD
Looking forward, we'll be having our Brakelight Clinic and Health Fair on December 3rd. We offer free brake light changes and health resources, including NARCAN from our comrades with Trystereo. And we are always looking for volunteers! If you're interested in getting involved, fill out this form.
Our Health Justice and Direct Service Committees will meet on Tuesday, November 22nd to continue planning for the December 3rd Clinic. Sign up here to join the meeting!
In Solidarity,
DSA New Orleans Local Council
