John,

January 6th was not a rally that got out of control. It was not a protest that turned violent unexpectedly. Trump gathered people to come to the Capitol with the expressed goal to stop the certification and overturn the election.

His supporters had zip ties, semi-automatic weapons, Molotov cocktails, and pipe bombs. They brought nooses and hunted through the Capitol building shouting “where’s Nancy.”

They came within inches of breaching the Senate chamber before officers were able to get it secured. They intended to do harm and many are in jail because of it.

Section 3 of the 14th Amendment clearly disqualifies Donald Trump from becoming President: "No person shall … hold any office … under the United States … who, having previously taken an oath … to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.”

Let’s make sure that every leader in America knows that we are counting on them to stand up for democracy and hold Donald Trump accountable for rallying his supporters to storm the Capitol in a violent attempt to stop the certification of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ victory.

Not only did Donald Trump foment violence and disinformation for weeks, just hours before violence broke out in DC and people died, Trump rallied his supporters to storm the Capitol, continuing to claim he won in a landslide saying “the other side knows it.”

“All of us here today do not want to see our election victory stolen by emboldened radical Democrats. We will never give up. We will never concede. It will never happen. You don’t concede when there’s theft involved.”

Our country has had enough. We will not take it anymore. We will not let them silence your voices,” he said. “We’re not going to let it happen.”

Almost immediately after Trump left the stage, his supporters, many of them heavily armed, stormed Capitol and the violence began. While watching this unfold, Trump refused to call in the National Guard to help Capitol police.

Trump encouraged and incited violence and the Constitution clearly shows what the consequences should be.

When Trump disrupted the transition of presidential power mandated by the Constitution after having sworn to defend it, he immediately became ineligible to be President or hold any other public office ever again.
