Now that the dust is settling after last week’s elections, I wanted to thank you one more time for your generous support of our work during the 2022 election cycle — thank you!

While it was a tough night for Iowa Democrats across the state, I hope you share our excitement about one bright spot: re-electing Senator Sarah Trone Garriott and defeating GOP Senate President Jake “Sinister Agenda” Chapman.

Whether you voted, helped your friends and family vote, knocked doors, wrote postcards, posted on social media, or donated to our organization or a State Senate Democrat’s campaign, your support was critical to our efforts and made a difference. Your investment in our organization was incredibly valuable and allowed us to organize on the ground earlier than ever before.

After last week’s results, it’s clear we have a lot of hard work ahead of us here in Iowa. But Iowa, and our shared values, are worth the work. I am not giving up because there is too much on the line.

Iowa Senate Democrats will continue to fight to ensure every child can attend a quality public school, reward Iowan’s hard work with good pay and benefits, and protect our most basic freedoms - your right to vote in a free and fair election, your right to privacy, and your right to make your own health care decisions, especially the right to an abortion.

I’m committed to a thorough and honest debrief of the 2022 elections so we can help chart a new course forward for the Iowa Democratic Party. We know from the results of the past few elections that we need to do a better job of communicating with Iowans about our values and vision for Iowa’s future. We’ve already begun the process of reviewing our campaigns so we can learn what worked for our candidates and what we need to do differently to win elections in rural and small town communities again.

I am deeply grateful for your continued support as we enter a new legislative session and plan our path to Election Day 2024 and beyond — our work would not be possible without the generous support of people like you.
