[1]Alex Padilla for Senate

Friends,

Donald Trump is running for President again, and before we even get into what I think about his campaign (although you can probably guess...) I want to be very clear about something.

Donald Trump incited a violent mob to attack the Capitol and attempted to subvert our free and fair elections. That’s a direct attack on our democracy, and he must be held accountable.

This announcement should in no way impede the multiple investigations into Donald Trump, his campaign, his businesses, and his former administration.

Nobody is above the law.

I’d be lying if I said that I wasn’t worried about the threat Trump poses to our country. Even beyond attacking our elections, Trump goes after immigrants and the LGBTQ community, denies the science and reality of climate change, and prioritizes his own wealth and power over what’s good for our country.

But the truth is that we’ve beaten Donald Trump before and we’ll do it again.

We beat him in 2020 when we elected President Biden, and we beat him in last week’s midterms when Americans overwhelmingly rejected his extreme, election-denying candidates.

I promise that as long as I have the privilege of representing you in the Senate, I will not waver in protecting and defending our democracy.

I will fight every single day, to safeguard the democratic principles and institutions that our country was built on.

But I cannot do it alone. It’s going to take ALL of us getting involved. It’s the only way.

Can I count on you to support this movement as we take on — and defeat — Donald Trump one more time?

Thank you. My team and I will be in touch with more soon.
