here's your November Ocean Activist newsletter No images? Click here Hey there, In a big week for the environment, the government have yet again missed an opportunity to become the world leaders in climate change that they claim to be. The irony in the PM only attending COP27 if he has time completely disregarded the urgency facing the climate crisis. We don't have time for dithering. The environment should be a priority, not an optional RSVP. What do we need in the face of environmental disaster? Imminent action, commitment, and well-thought-out solutions. And what did we get? Diddly-squat. The UK has not increased its commitments to tackle climate change. No new money has been promised, just a reiteration of pre-existing commitments made in 2019 as part of a five-year climate finance budget. But while the government's environmental commitments are thin on the ground, we've been busy driving change for the ocean. Here's what we've been up to... (pssst we're also releasing something BIG next week. 👀 Keep an eye on your emails and our socials.) We've reviewed our Youth Ocean & Climate Manifesto's goals... the government clearly have a lot of work to do. Last year, our Youth Advisory Panel prepared a manifesto outlining actions our leaders need to take for the future of the planet. At the start of COP27 this year, we sent a progress review to highlight the lack of action. From launching the manifesto last year, we're shocked to see that not only have the government stalled on progress, in some cases they've actually gone backwards. It's unbelievable that we're still funding fossil fuel projects, read more on it here. We handed in our rivers petition to the Department for the Environment. The recent news from Oxford shows why this is so important. On 18th October, SAS campaigns team were joined by swimmers, paddleboarders and kayakers to deliver the petition to the Secretary of State to speak up for our rivers. Read more here.
