As the murders took place, threatening videos and a list accusing several of the victims of having links to the security forces were circulated.
Amid fear and anxiety, a group of women human rights defenders decided to speak out against this wave of violence. They decided to help the victims escape Tibú, putting their own lives at risk to do so.
InSight Crime traveled to Tibú, an area historically affected by Colombia’s armed conflict, to learn the stories of these women and recount the violence inflicted upon them.
We invite you to explore our research on the links between gender-based violence and organized crime, available on our website.
