Hi John,
In the last 20 years, the percentage of students experiencing verbal harassment for their sexual orientation or gender expression has dropped by half. In that time the frequency of physical harassment and physical assault has also declined.
Although the overall climate for LGBTQ+ students has improved, school remains quite hostile for many LGBTQ+ students. There is an urgent need to continue our efforts to create safe and affirming spaces for all students as seen in the data from GLSEN’s most recent National School Climate Survey.
John, together we’ve seen the progress and we know what works: training supportive educators, implementing inclusive curriculum, and enforcing comprehensive nondiscrimination policies while cultivating leadership and activism through GSA student clubs.
Supporters like you make it possible to build a future in which all students have the opportunity to learn and succeed regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.
On behalf of the LGBTQ+ young people whose lives you are helping, thank you.
