Global Citizen,
I’m writing to you from Sharm El-Sheikh in Egypt, where leaders across the world are meeting for the COP27 Climate Summit.
What happens here over the next few days matters. Not just for our planet’s future, but for the millions of people experiencing climate change now – like my own community in Kenya.
But there’s an issue. While Global South communities are on the front lines of the climate crisis, our voices are often ignored and silenced during global decision making moments. I’m determined to change this.
I’m here in Egypt with young climate activists from across Africa who are using their voices to bring about a green future. We hail from different parts of the continent and we campaign on different climate issues, but at COP27, we’re united by one clear mission: to ensure that no decision is made about us, without us.
Our communities are the least responsible for climate change but we’re in the throes of its devastating floods, fires, and famines. Our voices deserve to be heard.
