John, let’s be clear about Donald Trump:
Donald Trump is a twice-impeached, former white-supremacist-in-chief who is under investigation for inciting a violent and deadly white supremacist insurrection on our nation’s Capitol.
In Cori's first week in office, she helped lead the effort to impeach Trump after the deadly January 6th insurrection and aptly referred to him as the "White Supremacist in Chief" on the House floor. While Cori's speech was met with boos from her Republican colleagues, she didn't hold back — because she knew that defeating Trump in 2020 was only the first step in a long process to end white supremacy.
Trump and his fellow far-right extremists in Congress are dangerous on every issue whether it's abortion, the environment, the economy, immigration, or our criminal-legal system — and his campaign ignited this era of disinformation and open attacks on our democracy.
That's why we cannot take this threat lightly. Last night, Trump announced his candidacy for 2024 in the midst of ongoing criminal investigations.
His campaign and subsequent presidency emboldened hateful actors and courted a fresh generation of white supremacists, political violence, and extremism. We will not allow him to fan the flames of hate and division again, John. So, let’s be clear:
Donald Trump should be barred from ever holding public office again.
