Friend –
In 2017, I had a choice: I could sit on the sidelines, or I could dare to stand up for myself and other marginalized Virginians.
In the face of an unconstitutional Muslim Ban deliberately implemented just days after Trump’s inauguration, I questioned whether or not I was welcome any longer in America, despite having lived here for nearly 50 years. Knowing how much was at stake for so many marginalized communities, I decided to stand up and make my voice heard. Last night, Donald Trump launched his 2024 presidential campaign in yet another speech filled with lies and hateful rhetoric. Friend, we must not allow America to retreat to Trump’s empty agenda of failed policies and broken promises.
We must choose to stand up and reject Trump’s candidacy and all that it stands for – hate and division – at a time when our democracy hangs by a thread. In reaffirming America’s promise of democracy, I assure you we will not go back. Stronger together, Senator Ghazala Hashmi |
