Breaking news, friends: Today, the Senate voted to advance the Respect for Marriage Act, bringing us one step closer to enshrining marriage equality into federal law.
While the right for all to marry who they love has been the law of the land since the Supreme Court ruled in Obergefell v. Hodges, it couldn’t be more critical that that right be codified in federal law – particularly given the Supreme Court’s recent radical decisions to erode long-standing rights, including reproductive freedom.
I stand firmly on the side of marriage equality, and today, I’m asking you to join me: Will you add your name now to support the Respect for Marriage Act?
We must pass this and ensure that families in California and all across the country can rest easier knowing that their unions are safe and will receive equal treatment under the law.
But this is far from the end of the work we need to do. This year we’ve seen an unprecedented number of laws advanced across the country attacking the LGBTQ community, particularly our transgender kids. We know these attacks will keep coming, and we need to keep fighting back.
Today, will you join me in showing your support for LGBTQ rights by adding your name below?
Join me in supporting the passage of the Respect for Marriage Act – and then let’s continue the fight to expand and protect equality under the law and in our communities.
Thank you,
Rob Bonta
