Earlier this week, Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Senator Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV) won re-election, ensuring that Democrats will retain control of the U.S. Senate. But there’s still one more Senate election left in 2022 — the December 6th Georgia runoff between Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) and Herschel Walker.

This race is critical. With 51 Senate seats instead of 50, Democrats would have a true majority, instead of a power-sharing agreement where ties are broken by the vice president. That means they would have full control of key committees, and a much easier path to confirming nominees who will fight for working people and seniors.

Having 51 Senators would also weaken the power of the most conservative Democrats, Senators Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin (D-WV), since only one of their votes would be needed to advance key legislation. And, Democrats will have a better chance of retaining control of the Senate in 2024.
