Washington, DC - Yesterday, Congressman Van Drew questioned Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas in the House Homeland Security hearing.
"In the last fiscal year, there were over 2.3 million recorded migrant encounters at the southwest border, which included 98 non-US citizens who are on the terrorist watchlist," said Congressman Van Drew. "To attempt to combat the crisis at the border, Secretary Mayorkas is deploying highly trained and highly skilled Federal Air Marshals to the border to perform non-law enforcement duties. DHS is removing hundreds of Air Marshals from the skies during one of the busiest travel seasons of the year, even though Secretary Mayorkas has said that America's aviation infrastructure is a high threat target.
"The American people deserve to know how this deployment is justified; we should be hiring additional Border Patrol agents and finish the wall, rather than putting our aviation security at risk. Enough is enough."
