Congress Extends ACA Subsidies
The Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) includes a number of health reforms including the extension of enhanced Marketplace subsidies and Medicare prescription drug negotiation.

In this month's issue, Katie Keith analyzes Congress' extension of enhanced Marketplace subsidies through 2025 and the drug prescription reforms associated with the IRA.

The article examines key updates to the ACA as well, namely:

  • The HHS' revised nondiscrimination rule
  • The suspension of Georgia's Section 1332 waiver
  • A Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling in Texas that would impact coverage requirements and cost sharing for preventative services.

Katie Keith also writes the Following the ACA series on Forefront, which you can read here.

Elsewhere At Health Affairs
Today on Forefront, Emily Stewart discusses how reproductive care is being restricted in geographic regions dominated by hospitals with refusal policies, even in states where abortion remains legal.

Robert Bohrer examines Justice Alito’s majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health and the implications it has for religious freedom and patient health.

Natalie DiCenzo and Todd Rosen discuss language pertaining to abortion bans and argue that clarity is needed to outline definitive treatment options for health care providers to safeguard patient health.

Billy Wynne and coauthors argue that modest Democratic gains (or mitigated losses) in the recent Midterm elections bode well for the Medicaid program, access to abortion services, and more aggressive measures to reduce health care costs.
