Did you know that today is the middle of the DACA Week of Action? Continue reading for opportunities to join the fight and protect our youth. We're also sharing some research and resources on safety net program and the importance of encouraging immigrant families to access them. Lastly, PIF will be closed next week for the holiday, so we'll see you November 30th!

As we are a benefits-focused coalition, let’s lead with the fact that the DACA program has definite benefits for immigrant well-being like health, education, economic achievement. The Children Thrive Action Network fact sheet highlights those elements. Did you know that DACA has changed the life of over 800,000 young people? CTAN has put together a thorough fact sheet on the importance of DACA, the impact it has had on young people, and the urgency of creating a path to citizenship for these youth. Join them during their week of action from November 14-20 to push Congress to move forward with a legislative solution for citizenship before the year ends! 

As part of DACA Week of Action, the National Immigration Law Center produced a video further highlighting the urgent need for Congress to take action now. 

The Urban Institute recently published a brief, which notes that, despite facing hardship, many immigrant families do not participate in safety net programs due to immigration concerns. Some notable findings include:

• Many adults in immigrant families reported not applying to safety net programs because of immigration-related concerns.
• About 50% of adults in immigrant families who applied for safety net programs reported difficulties with enrollment in one or more programs

USCIS has put together an infographic clarifying the 2022 public charge final rule. The infographic is available in 13 languages and provides details on what the rule does and does not do. Scroll to the "Additional Resources" section of this page to view the resource in the language of your choice. 

In anticipation of open enrollment season, Georgetown's McCourt School of Public Policy has updated it's marketplace navigator resource guide. This guide answers over 300 FAQs on on topics such as marketplace eligibility, premium and cost-sharing assistance, special enrollment opportunities, and post-enrollment issues for individuals. 

Working groups offer active members an opportunity to shape key aspects of PIF's work:

RESEARCH: Convenes researchers working on issues connected to PIF’s agenda, and identifies research needs. Makes data accessible to advocates, policymakers, and the public.

FEDERAL ADVOCACY: Cultivates Members of Congress as champions and spokespeople. Develops and advances legislative and administrative policy change strategies.

POLICY/ LEGAL (NERDS): Provides technical analysis of proposed and implemented policy changes.

COMMUNICATIONS: Develops PIF’s communications strategy and materials, including message strategy, media relations, and digital outreach.

COMMUNITY EDUCATION: Convenes members to share best practices and approaches on how to educate and empower immigrant families on their eligibility for public programs and tap their power as advocates for change.

STATE POLICY: Brings together state advocates and legal and policy experts to provide analysis and develop strategies to mitigate the effect of federal policy changes and advance state and local reforms that improve safety net access for immigrant families.
