Hello John - All five episodes of the new It Gets Better Project original series "Queer Sex Ed" are now available to view on itgetsbetter.org. "Queer Sex Ed" pairs IRL groups of friends with professional sex educators Melina Gaze and Dr. Lexx. They're having vital conversations about queer sex, sex in the media, consent, pleasure and more while the sex educators listen in to react, offer context and bust some myths! Today, Dr. Lexx promoted the series and the importance of queer-inclusive sex education with a new column for SheKnows.com, "Teaching Queer Sex Ed Isn’t The Problem — Parents’ Discomfort Is." Dr. Lexx writes: Currently in the U.S. sexuality education is poorly regulated and mandated. Of the 29 states and District of Columbia that require sexuality education, nine states have policies that include affirming sexual orientation instruction on LGBTQ identities or discussion of sexual health for LGBTQ youth. Meanwhile, six states explicitly require instruction that discriminates against LGBTQ people. Further, “13 states do not require sex education or HIV/STI instruction to be any of the following: age-appropriate, medically accurate, culturally responsive, or evidence-based/evidence-informed.” That means out of 50 states, only 17 are giving our children medically accurate, age-appropriate and culturally responsive sexuality information. ... Queerness is painfully missing from curricula — but projects like It Gets Better’s Queer Sex Ed look to stand in the gap. Watch all five episodes of "Queer Sex Ed" now. Help us get the word out about this critical series by sharing it with LGBTQ+ youth and educators and on your social media channels. - It Gets Better Project The It Gets Better Project is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with a mission to uplift, empower, and connect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer youth around the globe.
