I’m so proud of this movement.

Democracy was on the line in this election – and the American people showed decisively that we’re not willing to let it go.

Many votes are still being counted. But here’s some of what the NDRC achieved thanks to your support:

• We helped elect eight Democracy Defenders to gubernatorial offices.
• We helped win three secretary of state races.
• We helped flip at least three state legislative chambers, including two in Michigan – giving Michigan a Democratic trifecta for the first time in decades.
• We protected Democratic majorities in six more chambers.
• We protected the veto power of Democratic governors in two states.

It’s not perfect. But it’s a powerful statement. Thanks to the tenacity of the people – people like you – fairness and democracy have been enhanced in our nation.

I've believed consistently that wherever Democrats can fairly compete, they can win. The election results underscore that. It’s clear that the NDRC’s comprehensive strategy played a key role to lay the foundation for last week's outcome. Both on the federal and the state level, fair maps in states like Pennsylvania, Michigan, and North Carolina prevented an unearned Republican wave.

However, too many Americans in too many states – including Florida, Georgia, and Wisconsin – continue to be impacted by partisan and racial gerrymandering. Two redistricting cases are before the U.S. Supreme Court and nine other lawsuits against Republican gerrymandered maps are making their way through state and federal courts.

The work must continue. And I hope you’ll stick with us as we keep pushing it forward.
