John,

I’m incredibly excited to share the news: WE’VE OFFICIALLY WON CALIFORNIA’S 9th DISTRICT! A massive drop of new ballots were released last night and they broke our way. I couldn’t be happier.

First off, thank you for your patience as we waited for vote totals to come in. We always knew this race was going to be close, especially if control of Congress came down to California, and man were we right.

We ran this race with the conviction that hard work and staying true to our values would allow us to overcome a MAGA extremist - and the voters agreed.

This was my daughter Lillian’s first election, and I’m really proud she’ll be able to look back at 2022 and know her dad helped fight back.

I’m also realistic about the challenges ahead. It looks like Democrats are going to lose the House, which means Kevin McCarthy and Marjorie Taylor Greene will hold outsized power. I know that for the next two years my job will be being a voice for the Valley and also, frankly, fighting to protect our country from their extremism.

But I go into that fight with the knowledge that this incredible team has my back. To every one of you reading this email, thank you from the bottom of my heart. Your words of encouragement, your advice, and yes, your grassroots donations, fueled me and my team through the ups and downs of the past two years. I’m so honored to be serving you in Congress, and I promise to keep making you proud.

We have a lot of work to do. Lowering the cost of living, child care, capping the price of prescription drugs, codifying abortion rights, tackling climate change, getting money out of politics, addressing the root causes of homelessness, and making sure every kid has food on their plate and a roof over their heads.

That’s what I plan to focus on.
