*Have your say on plans for East Midlands Devolution*
A public consultation about devolution for Nottingham, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire, and Derby has started.
The deal, which would create a new Combined County Authority, offers the region a package of new powers and funding worth ?1.14 billion, or?*?38 million*?a year over the next 30 years.
Benefits of devolution include more investment locally, economic growth, more and better-quality jobs, transport, skills training, and a greener environment.
Providing more and better quality homes is one of the key themes of the plan. A Combined County Authority would*?*work with local authorities, landowners, developers, and the full range of housing providers to create affordable, good quality housing options and to retrofit existing homes to be more environmentally sustainable.
It could mean new and better standards for homes, low carbon measures, and improvements to existing housing for growth and regeneration
* New powers mean they could buy land and housing and acquire and dispose of land to build houses, commercial space, and infrastructure.
* ?16.8 million a year would also be available for building new homes on brownfield land. (subject to suitable areas being identified.)
* ?9 million would help to support the delivery of housing priorities.
Devolution would create a new directly elected regional mayor covering both counties and cities, with an election taking place in May 2024. Local councils would still exist as individual councils and would work together on a formal and legal basis to improve the region for our communities and businesses.
The consultation is taking place from Monday 14 November until Monday 9 January 2023.
