The producer price index increased by 8% on a yearly basis in October, down from 8.4% in September, with a month-over-month increase of 0.2%, according to the Labor Department. The annual decline is the fourth in a row, but wholesale gas prices remained elevated, rising by 5.7% last month.

Home Depot had third-quarter profit of $4.34 billion, up 5.1% from a year ago, on revenue of $38.87 billion, up 5.6%. Customer transactions for the home improvement retailer fell 4.3%, but higher prices for lumber and other building materials helped buoy average ticket sizes.

Amazon reportedly to lay off about 10K employees

Amazon plans to start cutting around 10,000 positions as soon as this week, marking the largest set of layoffs in the company's history, sources have said. Most of the positions affected are expected to be within the devices sector, but the physical retail arm may also experience cuts, and Amazon has paused all corporate hiring for its physical and online shops.

Report: Supply chain cybersecurity a major challenge

Virtually all C-suite executives at companies with at least 1,000 employees say their businesses experienced cybersecurity breaches in supply chains in 2021, according to a survey conducted by Opinion Matters for BlueVoyant. The percentage of companies that report on or audit supplier security more than two times per year increased from 53% in 2021 to 67% in 2022, and respondents say their main challenges include satisfying regulatory requirements and collaborating with suppliers on security improvements.

Hydrogen trucks could find place in US, experts say

The sweet spot for hydrogen-powered vehicles could be long distances commercial uses that are impractical for electric vehicles due to range limitations and the current state of US charging infrastructure, experts say. "Hydrogen is great for long-haul operations; it can work in any kind of weather conditions and doesn't lose efficiency in cold weather, which electric vehicles can do," said Jason Wallace, in charge of North American Operations for Hydron, a startup developing hydrogen heavy-duty trucks.
