The brutal attack is the latest in a series of horrific manifestations of hatred
happening on a near daily basis in the United States. This was the 13th recorded
antisemitic attack in the New York area since December 8, New York Governor
Andrew Cuomo said in a statement ordering increased police patrols to contend
with the heightened surge of incidents. ​

#SpreadLight

The WJC Jewish Diplomatic Corps implemented an immediate, visible response to
show unity in the wake of the Monsey attack. Jewish Diplomats all around the
world lit Hanukkah candles on the eighth night of the holiday both privately in
their homes and publicly across social media feeds, choosing to #SpreadLight
proudly and broadly, rather than to hide in the shadows.

[[link removed]]New York Jewish community to hold mass solidarity rally in response to rise in
antisemitic incidents

Prominent New York-based Jewish organizations, including the World Jewish
Congress American Section, will gather on Sunday at 11 AM in Foley Square in
Lower Manhattan, crossing over the Brooklyn Bridge to culminate in a rally in
Columbus Park, under the banner “No Hate, No Fear.”

[[link removed]]In Hanukkah message, British PM Boris Johnson takes strong stand against
antisemitism

Johnson marked the start of Hanukkah with a video message unequivocally
condemning antisemitism and emphasizing the importance of the British Jewish
population. In the video, the PM said “Britain would not be Britain without its
Jewish community" and encouraged Jews to celebrate their “unique identity” and
to tell the world that they are proud of their Jewish identity.

[[link removed]]Board of Deputies of British Jews condemns Islamophobic Brixton graffiti

The Board of Deputies has condemned Islamophobic vandalism of a South London
Islamic centre, describing the anti-Muslim graffiti as “appalling”. Scotland
Yard said police officers were called to the North Brixton Islamic Cultural
Centre at around 11am on New Year’s Day following reports that “anti-Islamic
slogans” had been spray painted on a nearby building.

[[link removed]]New York Congressional delegation announces support for Nonprofit Security Grant
Program

Members of the New York Congressional delegation announced on Thursday during a
press conference at the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York their support for
the Nonprofit Security Grant Program, which currently provides $90 million of
targeted funding to organizations vulnerable to terror attacks and allows these
groups to apply for grants of up to $100,000 to enhance security measures such
as fencing, surveillance cameras, reinforced doors, and the hiring of security
personnel.

On January 16, leading Italian sporting officials and groups will join the UECI
to send a strong and unified message to “kick out racism” in sports, with the

The World Jewish Congress and the Jewish community of Slovakia were concerned to
learn that 22 gravestones in a Jewish cemetery in the country’s northern town of
Rajec had been damaged by unknown vandals, a week after 60 gravestones in the
town of Namestovo were found damaged in a similar manner.
