John,
A president who incites an insurrection disqualifies themselves from serving in public office. In light of Donald Trump’s announcement that he is running for president again, we will take action—when the time comes—to bar Trump from holding office ever again.
A stand against Trump’s ability to serve is a stand for democracy, accountability and the safety of our country—and for the principles clearly enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. We’re prepared, and we’re not hesitating.
This is going to be our biggest fight yet, and we’re asking for your help. If you’d like to contribute to our effort to bar Trump from holding office again, please donate now →
The January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol was an insurrection—one that Trump incited. The 14th Amendment's Disqualification Clause states that people who engage in insurrection after taking an oath to uphold the Constitution disqualify themselves from office—and that means that by inciting the insurrection, Donald Trump violated the 14th Amendment and disqualified himself from the presidency. Paired with his dozens of likely crimes since he began running for president in 2015, it is long overdue that Trump is truly held accountable.
We sent Trump a letter this month to let him know that if he seeks office despite being disqualified under the Constitution for engaging in insurrection, those loyal to the Constitution will defend it. We’re not letting Donald Trump serve in office again without a fight.
We are grateful to have you with us as we take on this work. If you’d like to pitch in a few dollars to help fund this effort, here is a secure link to donate: citizensforethics.org/stoptrump
